I just deleted my Bluesky account because two people I know complained and left Bluesky. The reason is unclear, but at least my AI told me that Bluesky is less relevant in data sovereignty, including the checkmark given to ICE.

You want an Asian Fedi site. — Why?

When I said that I support a free and independent Israel and Palestine, and that I believe everyone has the right to peacefully exist, my account was terminated.

When I pointed out that Gaza Verify themselves uploaded a video claiming to be filmed in Gaza, yet showed a large building-sized poster of Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, in the distant background — demonstrating that the footage was, in fact, from Iran — my account was terminated. When I shared additional corroborating evidence from my work at Meta, that account was terminated as well.

When I published a list of digital service providers outside U.S. jurisdiction — advocating for independent digital sovereignty beyond the influence of the U.S., China, and Russia — that account, too, was terminated.

Here is the hard pill to swallow: the Fediverse, much like the once-popular community forums of the past, is often run by people who claim to support freedom of speech and factual discourse, but in practice enforce ideological conformity, personal bias, and selective censorship. Speech is tolerated only when it aligns with an administrator’s preferred narrative; evidence is welcome only until it challenges it.

So what makes an Asian site different?

It’s not that Western sites are bad. Many are well-intentioned and run by people trying to do the right thing. The difference, for me, is practical rather than ideological.

Asian-hosted sites tend to give me more room to speak freely, provided I respect the stated rules. Moderation feels more procedural and predictable: if you follow the guidelines, your speech stands, even when it’s unpopular or challenges prevailing narratives. Disagreement is treated as disagreement, not as a character flaw.

In that sense, the appeal isn’t about geography or culture — it’s about consistency. I’m not looking for a platform without rules; I’m looking for a platform where the rules are clear, applied evenly, and not shaped by shifting social or political pressure.

A Fedi site in Asia is likely to give you more freedom of speech and expression. Hate speech is still censored, which is good, but you are free to share facts — even if they are politically sensitive or unpopular — so long as you remain respectful and back up your claims with evidence. This is how social media should work, and it tends to work this way more often on Asian-hosted sites.

The murderer stirred from his perch and picked up a knife.

His victim cried out, "You don't have to do this! There are alternatives!"

The murderer considered this and picked up an axe instead.

RE: social.growyourown.services/@F

I knew Bluesky started hosting ICE (and verified the account) yesterday. I didn't realize it also already hosted Homeland Security, etc.

Very glad I never bridged to #Bluesky.
