All @Gargron was doing is to point out that real decentralization matters, and that the #fediverse has solved that problem - descentralized in control and jurisdictions - no single authority could block Mississippi in the #fediverse.
Isn't this a good thing? Are you really sure you disagree with that?
What about learning from that or integrating with that (e.g. via #activitypub) instead of dismissing it?
Now that they have private chats I assume those are excluded.
> Note that the export endpoint intentionally does not require authentication: content in a user's repository is public (much like a public website), and anybody can download it from the web.
I’ve complained there needs to be an easier way to move my posts to another ActivityPub platform.
But I’ll shush now after reading about Bluesky’s data export process. Good gracious.

@mmasnick.bsky.social @Gargron
Isn't agreeing on facts the ìnitial foundation for working together on something?
And what about making social networks interoperable instead of competing islands and all these emotions against "the others"?
What about #bluesky supporting also #activitypub in addition to #atproto to interconnect with #mastodon, #threads and the whole #fediverse?
Ideally the NIH syndrome and emotions don't work against interoperability of socual networks.
Sorry, but this not true. @Gargron was correct in everything he was saying.
While #bluesky centrally blocked #mississippi nobody in the #mastodon world has the ability to centrally block Mississippi.
While techincally #atproto supports decentralization as well as #activitypub , in practice basically all #atproto users are on the mercy of centralized #bluesky. The #mastodon world is really decentral: Decision making, jurisdictions etc.
One of the biggest benefits of distributed social media like Mastodon is that this sort of thing wouldn't be possible.

Said this to a Linux friend of mine as a reply, and I'm gonna say it again but as a standalone post:
ATProto/Bluesky is a bit like Wayland. It's a very complex solution, but in the long term it's gonna be like a well-oiled machine, and ActivityPub/the Fediverse is like X11 - it's made mainly for one singular purpose, and was cobbled together for other purposes and features.
But with the attitude and conspiracy-throwing towards Bluesky from fedi's loudest evangelists, it's actually much more like XLibre than bog-standard X11.

I’ve been posting on #tiktok for a while. And they are starting to notice it’s being censored. Putting ex-Israel military as head of it’s hate speech division was the icing on the cake.
Now would be a time for the #fediverse to step in, boldly. Many of these people want a robust, uncensorable social network, not just dances & follows.
But they do want a video editor!
What’s the plan? @dansup with Loops.video? Convince #upscrolled to join #activitypub ?
One of the things I observe about Ghost’s #ActivityPub pitch is that the bit of the Fedi it seems most interested in and *most active on* is Threads.
I leave it to you to decide a) how correct that is, b) how that intersects with…

I don't think this exists, @seabass. I am #fediverse / #ActivityPub / #Mastodon n00b, but I think your options for this are:
* Create a separate account for other interests & link them via your profiles (I see this often.)
* Contain the discussion to a thread (always reply, never new post) & use the appropriate hash tag.
* Use the hashtag as content warning so follows can ignore easily if not interested.
I post about #MST3K enough I've considered making @bkuhn@mst3k.social myself…
Occasionally, during my free time, I have been generating a list of Fedi sites, that use non-US domain names.

Generally speaking, assuming they're wise enough to also use non-US hosting (as everyone should), that can place them outside U.S. Jurisdiction.
