If you wanted to BackUp a post on the Fediverse, and all you download was the Activity File (with URLs pointing to the non-text media), then — you lost all the (non-text) media (such as images, audio, video, etc) that were part of the post.
Which would be bad.

I think one challenge, in practice, with using an Activity File as a BackUp Format is that — a lot of Fediverse software does NOT embed (non-text) media (such images, audio, video, etc) in the Activity File.
But, instead reference them using URLs.
(And, by "URL" I mean "URI", "IRI", etc.)
Usually this is probably a good thing, but —

@rofaustin @felipesiles Explicação técnica: o servidor só baixa (e armazena) o conteúdo dos perfis remotos que alguém segue.
Também entra a definição local de tempo em cache.
Há clientes que facilitam, carregando o conteúdo faltante em uma sequência de respostas na medida do necessário, como #Fedilab.
O servidor #Mastodon, recentemente, também promete fazer isso por si só.
Isso está mais para como viabilizar a descentralização do que limitação do protocolo #ActivityPub

After years on a managed Mastodon instance, I've finally jumped into the #selfhosted world! Say hello to my new personal #ActivityPub instance, powered by #GoToSocial from home.
While I test the waters here (and learn all the complexities of managing self-hosting!), this space will be for the longer-form, deeper-dive content:
1. Extended mountain trip reports with more photos.
2. Ramblings on my rather amateur adventures in #technology, #landscapephotography, #lora mesh networks, #degoogling efforts, and #linuxphone solutions.

Ok so this account is 1 month old today, and I never did my introduction properly, partially because I'm not very good at it 😅
I'm Victoria, pronouns they/she, from Brazil, demigirl, pan, greyace, ambiamory, and communist.
I have been moderating some live streams for more than 10 years, and during the day I work with QA specialized in automated testing for 7 years. My social media usually is a mix of:
- serious topics
- tech yapping
- weeb shit (anime, donghua, mangá, manhwa, manhua)
- games (I graduated in game dev)
- memes
I already had a little bit of contact with Fediverse through accounts using Bridgy to Bluesky (where I'm more active because I'm an ATProto nerd, and I'm involved in some interesting projects with it), and I also read about ActivityPub for some time. Until I decided to jump in for real through Wafrn (that mixes AP and AT, which I find very cool).
As I said, I'm still more active over my Bluesky account, which Wafrn people can find directly in @vicwalker.dev.br, and Fedi people can interact through Bridgy @vicwalker.dev.br@bsky.brid.gy.

Ok essa conta aqui completa 1 mês hoje, e eu nunca parei para fazer minha apresentação pro Fediverso direito, em parte porque sou meio ruim nisso 😅
Sou Victoria, pronomes elu/delu, ilu/dilu, ela/dela, demigirl, pan, ace cinza, ambiamorose e comunista.

Eu já tinha um pouquinho de contato com Fedi com contas usando Bridgy pro Bluesky (onde eu sou mais ativa porque sou nerd de ATProto, o procolo de lá, e to bem envolvida em uns projetos interessantes), e também já lia sobre ActivityPub por um tempo. Até que decidi mergulhar na prática através do Wafrn (que mistura AP e AT, o que eu acho muito legal).
Como falei eu ainda sou mais ativa na minha conta do Bluesky, que o pessoal do Wafrn pode achar diretamente em @vicwalker.dev.br, e quem está no Fedi pode ver via Bridgy @vicwalker.dev.br@bsky.brid.gy.
