WordPress投稿を修正してもマストドンが無視することもある
#ActivityPub #Mastodon #WordPress #

Backfill from Mastodon working really well!

I've seen hints of backfill working really well, but hadn't seen good examples until recently. As more and more instances upgrade to the newer versions of Mastodon that support context, backfill from Mastodon instances will improve across the board.

Today one of the most popular topics on my NodeBB instance was an update from the admin of The Forkiverse, a brand new up-and-coming instance.

プラグイン #ActivityPub が更新されてからか、その前はまだ未確認だけど、wp_postsテーブルの"id"と #WordPress の"id"が一致してない。

being built on open protocols, lots of visions are possible.

mine is #DemocracyOfReach. that we have lots of public servers based on locality and servers for companies, orgs, govts, media properties. that every article, podcast episode, song, video is also a post (#ActivityPub item). that we finally have the public truly collectively deciding what gets attention in our society based on boosts. no ads or media owners with outsized influence. all media decentralized.

@pj

in true decentralized fashion, you should start another one based on the search engine name. then talk other tech podcasters like @cwarzel.bsky.social into starting one.

this is fun but the better model is public servers based on locality while media properties like podcasters start instances just for their staff. like they have websites and/or email servers. ideally every podcast episode would be its own #ActivityPub item, not just have a post that links to it.

If you mention a group account (lemmy, piefed, guppy, etc.) in your post, fediverse clients should either remove options other than public for visibility of the post (unlisted, direct, followers only), or at least warn the user that their post's audience may not match their expectations.

Interesting read on decentralization of threat intelligence sharing! Random thought... I can't help but wonder if the Fediverse might have some future role to play here.

I suggest all of you check out the Versia Protocol, it is very interesting and I feel it has a lot of potential to become a standarized protocol.

It is ActivityPub/Fediverse-styled, in the sense that it operates under the idea of small pockets of users and informations that sync up on eachothers' data through simple communication

Some of the stuff I think it does better than ActivityPub:
1. Enforces hard endpoints for data fetching and backfilling
2. Enforces the ability for instances to change domains, as well as users to change handles
3. Has a server-to-server communication protocol for error logging and handling protocol implementation issues
4. Does not use JSON-LD, instead, opts in for a much simpler extension system that simply defines a set of values under an object
5. Implementing it is a very streamlined and straightforward experience, where most of the features you want (such as emoji reactions, likes, replies, etc.) are already part of the core standards as optional extensions.
6. Instead of having several ways to describe an object containing text and media, it simply has all of them under the same umbrella, with a couple of configurable options that serve mostly as tools for figuring out how to display an incoming "Note"
7. Encryption and signing are enforced.
