ActivityPub standardization is back! The #W3C just announced a new Working Group to evolve #ActivityPub and #ActivityStream and related standards! This is extremely good news. It's not like all the world's federated social media protocol problems were already solved! lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/p

What would be optimal maximum number of poll options in #Mastodon?

(Note: the participative polls, Google Doodle style, would be great for eg. negotiating meetings... but I understand the technical difficulties and risks and it is not supported by #activitypub just now ...)

2 - we just need to determine 51% majority
3 - like Python Boolean (True, False, None)
4 - I am conservative, when it comes to GUI
5 - we need to allow some slight progress
6 - more than 4, like 5, but I like even numbers
7 - because it would feel oddly mystical
8 - because it is twice as much than now
We should abolish polls, like Friendica does
We need polls, where anybody can add new option
We need polls about adding new option to a poll

In this case it was the topic of the shaky migration story here on ActivityPub. I mentioned a currently working and effective way that works on another network (ATProto) and, as I do when this comes up, expressed my hope that ActivityPods and C2S would bring that to AP with the initiative focused on exactly that.

But silly me, I made an off-hand reference to bluesky, specifically to say it worked even if Bluesky vanished tomorrow like so many AP instances have (the topic! I kept it on topic!) or if they banned you and deleted your account on their PDS and relay.

And they did what ideologues on this topic do and screamed (paraphrasing): "Bluesky! Isn't! Decentralized!"

Which was, of course, completely irrelevant, but also a topic worth discussing with different perspectives. But off the topic, which was service-level migration strategies.

And then it turned out I had them blocked on their main for recommending mastodon dot art anyway. :blobfoxcomfycomputer:

New Social Web Working Group at W3C

Today the W3C standards organization announced a new working group to advance the ActivityPub and Activity Streams standards. The Social Web Foundation, as a W3C member organization, will be participating in the group. The working group's goal is to release a backwards-compatible iteration of each specification in Q3 of 2026. Activity Streams was released in 2017, and ActivityPub was released in early 2018. Since that time, the experience of hundreds of implementers and millions of users has […]

Implementing QuotePosts in Loops is taking a tad longer than expected.

I don't understand why they require a QuoteRequest handshake if the interactionPolicy is public, seems overengineered and wasteful to me.
