📢 CALL TO FEDIVERSE
Tons of discussion about seeking alternatives to #Microsoft #Github, now that it has become part of MS's #AI division.
What made GH so popular, we should ask? Well, a ton of features and services on top of #git and a huge platform that makes exploring millions of #FOSS projects easy, are among the reasons I suppose.
The #ActivityPub @forgefed project funded by #NGI0 via @nlnet is creating open standards to provide the same, *native* to the #fediverse!
Yet they need HELP.
I'm still annoyed that I have to use a different app and identity to publicly track my reading on #ActivityPub but at least I've established the habit...

Heureka! I think I have now fixed all issues with the self-hosted #Activitypub and #Analytics containers. #Traefik is definitely more complicated than #Caddy – I do not know why I always choose the hard way. I will write a blog post about all this in the next couple of days, it might help people who use Traefik and want to self-host #Ghost with enabled Activitypub and Analytics. I also definitely need to take a look at the "caddy-docker-proxy" project and migrate my configuration.

@cmccullough As I absolutely dislike Wordpress, some other open source project with a considerable community was need. Something which is easily dockerized, has a reasonable footprint and a modern code base. And if I remember correctly, the documentation was also good.
Just realised they just published #Ghost Version 6 with #ActivityPub Support!

@zkat just brainstorming a bit here, and in no way experienced with the cryptography concepts involved. So maybe just silly thoughts..
I always wondered why #OpenBadges are so often associated with the narrow field of education. They have broad applicability. Maybe bending them a bit for different use cases as the ones you think about may be possible? Have that technology base as starting point. There's an #ActivityPub fedi project called @badgefed too.
If you're thinking of creating a Fedi site, I strongly recommend avoiding a .com, .net, .org, .info, .us, or .edu domain name.
You want to avoid U.S. jurisdiction entirely, which means choosing a domain name, registrar, and web hosting provider located outside of it.
I personally recommend the following domain extensions: .be (Belgium), .nl (Netherlands), .is (Iceland), .ch (Switzerland), .at (Austria), and finally, .tw (Taiwan).
All of these countries have strong protections for freedom of speech, including speech that defends and promotes minority rights — such as LGBTQ+ rights. Domain registration is open to everyone... You don’t need to be a citizen or own a business in any of these countries.
No solution is 100% perfect, but at this moment, we can say with confidence that the USA, China, and Russia are not ideal choices.

@badrihippo though I am in the process of overhauling and refreshing the curated list you might check..

And there are 2 other #ActivityPub related lists. In the one listing client software you might peek what other devs are using:

I've heard good things on the server side from #fedify, but what's a good #TypeScript *client* library for #ActivityPub? Suppose I wanted to write a #fediverse client for #KaiOS for example ![]()
Asking for a friend 😉
Or try @forgejo, the code #forge that #Codeberg is based on.
#Forgejo already has some #ActivityPub-based capabilities e.g. to federate stars, testing the waters for more to come. In their contrib community a whole @forgefed #ForgeFederation initiative is brewing..

Is there some #ActivityPub version of Swarm out there or did I make that up?
