"This statement is a call for cooling the temperature of discussions and a reminder to be respectful of each other and the huge amount of work everyone is putting in to build a better open social web. We do not win by tearing each other down, which only emboldens and empowers those who do not want either protocol to succeed."

The #Bluesky astroturfing is un fucking real. Luckily, there's no actual, genuine engagement. It's shills talking to shills. Hopefully, it will smolder. They are really trying to get people off of #Activitypub, though.

“There is an entire section of the #ActivityPub specification that isn't as well known or widely adopted but which, at a high level, provides fairly similar ideas to those emphasized within the AT Protocol community for separation between data, identity and applications.”

I think this is an excellent statement about the two main open social web protocols and I have to admit that I didn't know that ActivityPub has a section that deals with "separation between data, identity and applications" #ActivityPub #ATProto #SocialWeb

I certainly have my own opinions and feelings about the whole "fediverse vs Bluesky" thing, but this joint statement is a good reminder that fighting on the internet is never a good look.

Recently there has been a lot of dividing & heated discourse about ActivityPub and AT Protocol. Yesterday at the Social Web CG meeting, I proposed releasing a statement on this discourse, you can read the full statement here: github.com/swicg/genera... #activitypub #atprotocol #atproto #SocialWeb

Recently there has been a lot of discourse about ActivityPub and AT Protocol which has been quite dividing and heated.

Yesterday at the Social Web CG meeting (the group that maintains the ActivityPub and related specifications), I proposed releasing a statement that counters the narrative that one of these protocols must win, when both protocols can co-exist and have a lot to learn from each other.

The statement has been co-signed by various members of both Social Web CG, SocialCG, and the AT Protocol community.

“We do not win by tearing each other down, which only emboldens and empowers those who do not want either protocol to succeed.”

“Arguing between us only emboldens those that seek to derail and destroy efforts to build an open social web.”

Big thanks to @trankten for suggesting i18n in Loops + helping with Spanish translations for their loops.one instance!

Working with amazing fediverse admins is what makes Loops thrive. ❤️

No One’s Listening to Your Tech Rants

I wonder if these tech people who go on long monologues about software they hate or whatever discourse is happening in the tech space realize they’re getting muted, blocked, and added to mute lists by like 90% of people.

That’s why you get no engagement. You’re insufferable. I really wonder if they know how annoying they are. At least I have the decency to put it in a blog post when I do it. I’ve had to block—no joke—the 50th account. Maybe you wouldn’t be so miserable if you talked to real people offline.
