Any #wordpress experts have any tips for keeping my .htaccess file intact? Is there an action hook I can use to to rewrite the missing rules when it gets regenerated, or is it a config issue?
I imagine there's a plugin that will handle this for me but I'd rather reduce the number of plugins this site relies on rather than add another one.
I also imagine the internet has some answers, and I'll do my research, but the WP ecosystem is a bit of a dumpster fire so I find conversation with experienced devs far more helpful (and far less irritating than wading through all the plugin vendor spam).

Giusto un attimino prima di dormire (...che pure stavolta ho fatto tardi, mannaggia!!!), mi si permetta di sputare il rospo (pure perché sennò rimango con la gola bloccata, e come cazzo dormo) su cosa ho combinato alla fine, allora, per queste stracazzo di foto... e probabilmente farò esplodere alcune teste così, ma ehh...
A distanza di qualche ora, che ho smanettato, configurato, testato e verificato... la mia soluzione forse definitiva è non altro che usare un sito #WordPress dedicato su cui caricare le foto!!! 😳🤯🥰 (Con, ovviamente, alcune opportune magie.)
Credo che si possa definire già in produzione, perché già l'ho usato in modo pratico a parte i test, caricandoci alcune foto dal cellulare che, appunto, andavano levate per liberare spazio, ma bla bla bla... ed è così online a https://photos.octt.eu.org/, per chi vuole curiosare. 👁️
(...Da non confondere con https://foto.octt.eu.org/ che è tutta un'altra cosa di tanto tempo fa, che, ahimè io sono pur sempre terribile e spargo infinite cose ovunque.)
Indeed, a proposito: visto che ho già superato, tra le tante, pure una difficoltà tecnica legata alla privacy, che altrimenti mi avrebbe costretta a mettere una blocco completo al sito, l'ho potuto per ora lasciare pubblico... perché voglio vedere se magari riesco a combinare qualcosa di carino e simpatico anche lateralmente, seppur ora non ho grandi idee... quindi boh, ora sta lì, ci ho caricato una piccola galleria di test con foto che erano già pubbliche (dal 3DS però, non dal telefono; e anzi, riprese dall'altro sito con cui non far confusione, precisamente), nell'articolo di blog di test, e bona. 🧸
(Vietato rompere il sito, però... e, soprattutto, vietato farlo ancor prima che io finisca di spiegare!!!)
Ovviamente, tutto il grosso della storia è, e probabilmente continuerà ad essere, dietro il pannello admin... sia nel senso di utilità pratica, che ovviamente resta a me in prima e singolare unica magica persona, ma anche per quanto riguarda le schifezze tecniche che rendono così possibile questo riciclo del CMS più bloattato del mondo, la cui estensibilità però anche stavolta torna utile...
Con dovuta calma spiegherò quindi anche cosa ho fatto nella pratica per rendere tutto ciò possibile... un paio di plugin eh, non chissà che grandi rogne, ma comunque è una certa roba. 💥

I have two Wordpress-dot-com sites. One's paid and one's free. I've been meaning to migrate to something else ever since Matt Mullenweg blew up a couple years ago. After two years, I have the self-knowledge to know that static site generators are not for me, so I'll try some Canadian Wordpress hosting.
