I really can't believe that moving an object in the hierarchy in Unity breaks the references to it in the animator. No wonder I stopped using it before. I think I'll just use it now to test my rigging, but now for actual frames.

Phew, it took a while but I got the cantilever animation working.
This is using Unity's animation rigging and constraints, though I'm using custom constraints, as the standard ones couldn't establish the relationship I needed.
