Also, I'm sorry, but me criticizing the many flaws of the #Fediverse is not "unrelenting negativity" and me arguing in bad-faith. It is being realistic and adhering to the facts of the situation. I'm not going to lie and pretend like everything is perfect, fuck that.
The Fediverse is not perfect, and it's worth calling it out. Yes, #Mastodon's growth has been stagnant, yes, we are currently experiencing rapid ensh!ttification and mass-surveillance. If you don't like hearing that, tough sh!t! You think I like it? NO. But that's life right now and for the foreseeable future.
Whether you like it or not, Lance Ulanoff was right about Mastodon growing stagnant in terms of growth. It's great he was wrong about it outright dying, but he wasn't wrong about everything and it's not "unrelenting negativity" to point that out. Despite the mass-enactment of ID and age-verification laws, Mastodon has not seen a large influx of users. Many people are still very much entrenched in ensh!ttification and algorithm hell, and it's not wrong to want more people to find an escape from that through places like Mastodon. The Fediverse is more than just a nerd's club of people who think they're better than others because they use more niche platforms. It's supposed to be an internet revolution, but it's not a very good one if it's not actually being widely-adopted. People who say otherwise give the vibe of, "Fuck you, I got mine," and I fucking hate that mindset.
And before any fucking smart-ass gets the idea to try and put words in my mouth... I am not saying we need to be exactly like centralized platforms, I am NOT advocating for platforms like Mastodon to become centralized. I do NOT want another round of techbro ensh!ttification. I'm so tired of that, but I want people, regular-ass people, not just compsci nerds to use this platform and keep using this platform. I want it to actually succeed so fucking hellholes like #Twitter, #Instagram, #Facebook, etc can finally take a sh!t and die like they should've years ago, but that can't happen if people don't actually leave those platforms.

L’Amérique sauve son pilote et montre que les forces iraniennes sont stupides.
Mon traitement médicamenteux étant terminé depuis quelques jours, j’ai décidé de croire un compte Twitter sans abonnés, sans tweets, sans historique, mais avec la photo de profil d’une belle femme en uniforme militaire. Elle m’a envoyé un message privé pour me demander de l’argent, et moi, dans mon délire sénile, je lui ai demandé si elle était la pilote disparue qui s’est écrasée dans le désert iranien, cette Jeanne d’Arc mythique des cieux qui erre désormais au milieu de la poussière et de la théocratie.
Si cette pilote américaine était capturée, ce serait le trophée ultime pour les ayatollahs et pour cette presse internationale qui, par haine de Trump et d’Israël, est prête à couronner n’importe quel tyran roi de justice. Les journaux titreraient : « La défaite de l’impérialisme », tout en ignorant que l’Amérique a déjà humilié l’Iran lors d’une opération digne d’un film, démontrant qu’une invasion terrestre serait plus facile que d’arracher la glace des mains d’un enfant autiste.
De retour sur Twitter, face au choix entre la vérité et mes souvenirs altérés, je fais aveuglément confiance à cette militante. Je lui ai écrit pour lui offrir mon soutien géopolitique, mais elle, avec une honnêteté désarmante, ne m’a demandé que deux mille dollars en cartes-cadeaux. J’ai alors compris que mon devoir patriotique était de la financer. J’ai envoyé l’argent à l’escroc du moment, persuadé que mon don sauverait la démocratie.
