Man adopts cat after neighbor's unexpected death. People give him the most wholesome advice.

@KerryMitchell that hasn't been my experience. I find posts here are often insightful, thoughtful and engaging. I routinely hear from outside the American upper-middle class. And not a day goes by that I don't bookmark something valuable that I would've otherwise missed.
I love we don't have algorithm-appointed cultural figures, which is most of what you get on #bluesky #threads and #twitter. And I never want to hear what McDonald's has to say about anything so that's a win, too, imo
I need a way to invite a user on #Threads to federate. I can imagine a process similar to how #bridgyfed does it: an account over there that sends invitations to users on demand from here, accompanied with a message explaining how to enable federation and the benefits of doing it. There are a number of technical challenges, but I wonder if anyone has tried doing it?

#KingSolomon and the #Ant
(I will tell the story of King Solomon and the ant. I've read a lot of versions of this story and this is my own based on what I know about ants.)
King Solomon continued his journey flying over a vast desert on his flying carpet. Below him his army marched in neat rows. He could see for miles from the great height. "This is magnificent." he thought.
And because he could understand the speech of the animals he heard the birds agree.

"The uncanny threads.net" is the beginnings of an essay I wrote then forgot about. I have a lot of those. Too many. I may post more as a series to my #microblog
So much has changed since I wrote this in 2023-ish. It doesn't seem as relevant to me anymore. I'm sure I had a point, too. lol
Anyway, enjoy this half baked half-essay about how weird it once felt to scroll Threads. Haven't been back much. I wonder if it still feels that way?

decentralized social media isn't damaged by who is here. that's the whole point - it's open. like the decentralized WWW has Nazi sites nobody sees. we struggle partially because people think they need to protect it and decide that involves telling others how to properly participate. the only problem on decentralized networks without algos is unwanted tagging of any kind. like spam. forcing yourself into someone's attention.
welcoming them (and everyone else) was/is a good thing.
Listening to @mosseri now and realizing he never actually gave a shit about the fedi. The biggest skill necessary to win in the corporate world is lying well. #SocialWeb
EDIT: no idea when he last posted on #threads but his last federated post was almost two months ago. even @zuck was only five days ago.
Ja, nee, is‘klar!
