I have clients where I cannot install Restic, so I have to retrieve the backups via SSH.
Unfortunately, Restic cannot do this. I can mount the clients with sshfs and back up the mount point, but then the paths in the Restic backup are no longer correct.
Is there a ready-made solution?
I am open to any suggestions, thank you very much!

#restic #ssh #backup

SSH (Secure Shell) is one of the most useful tools in the toolbox of the system administrator. Used to connect to servers, computers, virtual machines, Docker containers, and more, this authentication method is fast, efficient, and secure. Here's how it works and how to get started.

@totentanz
Da sprichst du etwas an, was mich auch schon länger stört.

- spricht etwas dagegen?
- mögliche Probleme? Ggf. non-privileged lxc?
- andere Ideen?

A few tries ago, I was able to SSH into the home server laptop, and ping it, and also see its port 80 in a browser or with curl. Last time I was trying to set things up on the server, visiting the websites through port 80/Nginx stopped working but I could still ping and use ssh.
This time, I can't ssh either, or even ping. Both devices are connected to the internet. UFW is disabled. Nginx/ssh are running. Wtf is going on 😭 #linuxTechSupport #debian #nginx #ssh

#WorkStories:
Someone from my company needs SSH access to some special, new machines hosted by a service provider. So, how do you securely exchange SSH keys?

The process that the nontechnical people came up with:
The service provider creates an #SSH key pair and sends us the private key via e-mail.
But they don't want to send over the SSH private key *unencrypted* via e-mail, that would be insecure. So someone should generate a #PGP key pair, send the public key to the service provider (via e-mail), who would encrypt the SSH private key with it and then send it via e-mail.

I can't decide whether I should be rolling on the floor laughing, crying in a quiet corner of the office or banging my head against the wall.
