As far as #ssh keys go, my present self is none too happy with my past self.

I don't know what the hell I was thinking to have the keys expire today, as opposed to Jan 1, and _start_ giving me notifications today.

It's only seven or eight keys; but, past me was a fucking idiot.

At least I know what I'm doing for a little bit of tomorrow morning....jackass....🤣

Just so I've written it down somewhere: I realized I could simplify sharing #SSH configs across my desktop, laptop, server, and phone, by using the Include config.d/* directive in ~/.ssh/config, and making ~/.ssh/config.d/ by a symlink to a subdirectory in my #syncthing setup.

Much easier than passing text blocks around!

SSH host key verification remains a critical security layer often overlooked in remote server access. KnownHosts offers centralized trust management to prevent devastating man-in-the-middle attacks. Strengthening security protocols protects both infrastructure users and sensitive data.

Android is on a basic level Linux, right? On desktop Linux I can mount an SSH volume with fuse. (sshfs, I believe.) Is there a way to do that on Android?

I just learned something profound today that I couldn’t get 8-9 years ago. I had a friend back then that used to teach me #linux, and she told me about #SSH, but I didn’t understand; now today it just clicked that it’s basically like Nostr Private and Public Keys - and I get what these do so I should understand this now.

I really love how this works because it’s a no-brainer but you wouldn’t know it if it isn’t shown to you correctly.

Why can’t we do something like this for Mastodon? I don’t stick with Nostr because everything I see is mostly bitcoin stuff and it’s just not my thing.

By the way, I can’t find my friend anywhere anymore and I don’t know why. We lost contact when I was in Florida. She is very important to me but I don’t know how to reach the right people for help in finding her; she was primarily only known in the Linux community. Maybe I should make a separate post for this.

It was so nice, I did it twice 🎙️😊

Today I presented our paper „Fix it if you can - Towards understanding tool support and domain owners reaction on SSHFP misconfigurations“ at #ACSAC2025. We investigated how to best support domain owners to remediate insecure #SSH connections - and how they react, when we notify them. Specifically, we found that low remediation rates are not an indicator that a notification campaign is not successful, and that tool support needs further investigation.
