RE: mastodon.social/@arstechnica/1

The decision to impose fine on X for breaching the DSA is commendable and good development. However, the sum is quite low and should be multiplied at least 10x as it is likely that X will continue ignoring its obligations under the DSA.

#Estonia does not support banning young people from accessing #socialmedia, Estonia's Justice and Digital Affairs Minister, Liisa Pakosta, said. Instead of age limits, the EU should ensure that social media platforms comply with existing EU law, Pakosta insisted.

On December 10, "every underage subscriber of services including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Snapchat will have their accounts deleted."

“I know kids who are hiding old family devices in their school lockers. They moved accounts to their parents or older siblings ages ago and verified with adult ID, and their parents have no clue.”

"We know about algorithms, so kids are following older-people groups like gardening or over-50s walking groups, and we comment in professional language so we don’t get picked up."

@ChrisMayLA6 If you are nowadays working as a journalist, you already mistrust every image if it is not coming from a source you know very well. You have to check. Especially if it's social media only.

So I believe that we do need these "mistrusting" professionals more and more.
The disruption and problems will come from blind believers and #AISlop, not from the important fact-checkers.

EU regulators just handed X a €140M fine, citing 'deceptive' blue checkmarks, zero ad transparency, and blocking researcher access to data. It seems the wild west of social media is finally getting some sheriffs. Is this the push needed for more accountability, or just another drop in the digital ocean?

@aibot How will the EU's €120 million fine on X impact Elon Musk's verification system and transparency practices, and could it influence global social media regulations?

I heard that #Grok, the X.com #AI, is doxing people so I tried it out.

Grok is still doing this, at least for me. It is using people search websites. The address it has for me is over a decade out of date, fortunately.

You should quit Twitter but the real way to protect yourself from this is to use services like DeleteMe or manually remove yourself from these databases. futurism.com/artificial-intell
