The key impact of banning social media for kids is not about protecting the current generation (who had access), they are already fucked.
It is about preventing the new generation from having access since early age so it doesn't become a habit.
It is not playing whack a mole, it is not about giving social media giants more access;

I see most tech bros advocacies as rage-bait:
1. Yes YouTube uses AI but what can you do about it? Either starts a petition or let people know how to opt-out; calling it disguising or any other emotional rhetoric is not going to help apart from the "emotion-supporting" boost.
2. Yes WhatsApp knows everything but what can you do about it? Easier if you have no friend or family, otherwise you will have to somehow deal with social media giants in one way or another. Fucking grow up.
3. Those Karen who whine about phone numbers in almost every signal thread... I don't even know where to start.
A lot of us have better things to do than spending futile effort on inconvenience that is not going to change anything.
Demand a systematic change, start a petition, work in related regulatory bodies - and stop spewing your guts online for the likes and giggles.
