And then Mr. @anildash and all the rest of them perpetuate this lie when they go to the proprietors and moderators of #socialmedia sites to complain, always tailoring their complaints to make it seem as if they're just private persons getting "batshit" treatment from crazy people--deliberately lying about what they're actually doing here in the first place, i.e. trying to grub for attention and social clout and if possible *money* from the general public.

I repeat, Mr. Dash: you are not a "stranger" here. I am the stranger. I am the nobody, the person from the general mass of public users. You're here to advance your career, and therefore you expose yourself to criticism willfully.

I advise you to grow up, and learn how to take criticism.

I expect that Mr. @anildash will claim to the instance-runners of universeodon dot com that I am merely harassing him, calling me crazy and batshit and all sorts of other untrue things, and very probably he can succeed in getting me censored and suspended.

This is roughly how the #Internet and #socialmedia have been allowed to function now for about three decades. There's an unspoken and unacknowledged but very stark difference between the general public online--i.e. people of no importance and no social standing, such as myself--and professional persons such as Mr. Dash who feel entitled to special treatment, and who have enough social privileges and Internet clout to make miserable the lives of any ordinary person who dares to offend them.

The routinely abusive behavior perpetrated by persons such as Mr. Anil Dash are, in fact, *necessary* to this system. Mr. Dash has a privileged place here because he is _allowed_ to be abusive. He's like a rude customer in a restaurant who feels entitled to scream and hurl slurs at the staff.

So it turns out that this account has some purpose after all, distinct from what I'd like to do with myself at @alyx_woodward@eldritch.cafe where I hope to talk in a calmer way about my scientific and chemical interests.

I would very much prefer to talk JUST about my private (or at least small-scale) scientific curiosities, but the fact is that to be a scientist is to be part of a larger community whose overall purpose, in a just and honorable society, is to serve the public trust.

Because I feel that as a scientist I have some share of duty to safeguard the public's general welfare, I feel that I have a right to call out public persons whom I regard as damaging to the public trust...such as Mr. @anildash, who despite abusing and insulting me numerous times in public still seems to think he's just a victim.

There's a very good reason why Mr. Dash feels entitled to behave in such an antisocial way: the #Internet, in general, has permitted him to do so and rewarded him for it, and this is in fact one of the most destructive things that #socialmedia has done to the public culture of the United States and the world. It has made a mockery of professional ethics.

Title: "European created new social media platforms to compare with American big tech!"

Looks inside: bluesky server, just hosted in the EU.

So can I host my own Mastodon instance and brag that I created my own social media? 🤔
