So all of my computers are running some sort of docker.
This makes "traditional VMS" like virtualbox not work. (At least not easily)
So I picked up a #raspberrypi model 4b to tinker with #NixOS
Just to dip my toes into nix.
But the install is not smooth so far.
It turns out I can't just make a boot disk and go. I wasted a few hours trying "the traditional methods"
Instead I need to download the nightly(ish) "SD card image" from nix off their build server and its crawling along at 14kb/s because of course a build server isn't equipped to serve large files to the wider public.
I will get there, but I might need to wait for this download to finish overnight ...

@whynothugo Is #mosquitto not lightweight enough? Have been using it for years on #RaspberryPi|s and it was never the bottleneck, even at high throughputs.

Seriously, am I the only person running #upmpdcli with #mpd on #RaspberryPi as a #DLNA renderer on various devices round the house? I'm still very confused by the whole songcast thing, and also how to integrate snapcast receiver function into it.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to connect to a renderer and choose between upmpdcli playback or snapcast receiver.
Even with a project this nerdy, surprised I haven't met any fellow users on this fine fedi.

Ab sofort sind die Durchsagen im Haus individueller und interessanter, da ich ein Script geschrieben habe, dass jede Durchsage durch eine KI zufällig umformulieren lässt. Das Original lautete: "Die Waschmaschine ist fertig, bitte kümmert Euch darum!"
Man kann auch eine Rolle für den Stil der Umformulierung eingeben. Beispielsweise "Red Queen Resident Evil" oder "HAL 9000".
Die Stimme wird letztendlich mit Piper TTS auf dem Raspberry Pi 5 generiert.
Die Ausgabe erfolgt über ioBroker auf dem Google Nest Mini-Speaker.

For #RaspberryPi users, would you be interested in buying a low cost parallel Eink GPIO "HAT" to control displays like the 6" Kindle type? I believe it could be quite fast and modest in cost (e.g. < $50 retail). My initial idea is to support 33+34-pin 8-bit displays like the many 6" and 9.7" available new and used.

Dear Friends of Printing,
After much swearing, fumifying and general failure. I have after four days and trial and mostly error, been able to print from my printer Brother. I hope we will be friends for life.
I used a #raspberrypi 3 and Brother provided the #Linux driver. The other options did not work for me.
The printer has a fax option (won't be using) a scanner and photocopier option.
The first hurdle was printing.
Brother support Linux. So well done them.
Me? 🎖️ 
✅ I gets a medal for meddling until sucessful
