I've spent way too much time on this "tv like 90s" project with my #raspberrypi today.
So I decided to spent even more time on it 😬 I've ordered a #rpi Zero 2 to set it up as a receiver and plan to experiment with a few funky ideas:
- The TV remote will allow to "switch channel" by pressing "back/next" buttons.
- A timer, my kids are only allowed to watch TV for 40mins, and only thrice a week. After 40 mins: boom SMPTE screen 😆
- A parent mode, past 20h it shows cheesy 90s shows (maybe)

Thanks to "tommy", who seemed to have bought a raspberry pi500 plus, returned it to Microcenter, and in the process forgot to delete his data but more importantly gave me the chance to get it with a significantly discount as "open box" :)

Ouch! I have neglected my Paperless for a long time and just pushed a huge stack of several letters step by step into my scanner (or multi-function printer, whatever).
The small Raspberry Pi 4 is still processing them causing a high CPU load...

Stepper up and running. Set to default 1/8 microstepping, with the MCU sending a step every 100_000 ns.
Was having trouble with lower step delay--my quick review indicates the typical step low and step high time can be as small as 100 ns. I need to review the datasheet more in depth. Maybe I don't understand the possible interaction with microstepping or some other functionality.

Das zentrale Hub für meinen persönlichen Ausstieg aus der digitalen Verschränkung mit den USA ist endlich da: ein NAS.
Leider musste ich amerikanische Festplatten kaufen – die einzige relevante nicht-US-Marke (Toshiba) war nicht zu haben.
Natürlich war eine der vier Platten auch noch kaputt. Die muss ich also an den Händler zurückschicken und auf eine Ersatzplatte warten. Aber egal – das RAID5 steht schon einmal.
Seit gestern kopiere ich jetzt Filme und Serien auf das NAS, und das wird noch mehr als drei Tage dauern. 😱
Wenn das fertig ist, hat mein #Jellyfin-Medienserver sein endgültiges Zuhause gefunden – nach einem erfolgreichen Test auf einer #RaspberryPi und der temporären Heimat auf einem Mac mini von 2012.
#Netflix, #PrimeVideo und #Disney+ sind schon abgeschafft. Damit ist ein weiterer Punkt auf meiner Roadmap (https://bigtechbreakup.eu/roadmap/) abgehakt.
Passt ja, dass ausgerechnet heute #DiDay ist. 🤗

Yesterday, I managed to 1) install #PiHole on a #RaspberryPi behind in my #Tailscale mesh and configure the #DNS to use it 2) finally make my #HomeAssistant Voice Preview to work by installing the latest version.

My kids can now enjoy a selection of french cartoons from the 80/90s that are constantly broadcasted from my RPi. 😆
For now the receiver is the VLC app on FireTV, but I'm already looking into options for the remaining HDMI port to be a dedicated receiver.
Maybe… a RPi Zero 2 W? 😆

First prototype of my #diy #handheld #cyberdeck powered by a #RaspberryPi Zero. Unlike my previous tablet designs, this one is aimed at low power for extended battery life, focussing on command-line use. It will be used mainly for reading ebooks/websites, e-mail, SSH, note-taking and some coding fun. It could work well as a #writerdeck too.
