So Raspberry Pi stock is getting the zoomies 😼. Reuters says it jumped >60% from its early‑Feb low after CEO Eben Upton bought £13,224 of shares, alongside buzz people might buy Pis to run OpenClaw AI agents. The Register’s take: cheaper/easier/more secure than that is… a virtual private cloud.

Weird case today in my hobby of #RaspberryPi #electronicsrepair - a dead CPU, but all major ICs are fine: DA9090, VL805, FPF1320UCX...
And there's more: CPU was shorted on a 1V8 rail 🤔.
So a note to self on reballing and replacing similar ICs: use airflow around 40%, don't put a hot air nozzle on and don't underestimate hot air rotation while hearing the stencil and the chip. You'll thank yourself later 😊.

#requirementsengineering by a 4-year-old started. My older son has a #raspberrypi with a touchscreen in his room. He can control our multi-room audio system with a home-made web application. He recently requested the brightness be adjustable and explained that if I built it like the volume control, no explanation would be required.
I wish I received similarly well-thought-out feature requests at work!
Now he is happy about my implementation using #websockets and #mqtt @homelab

I made a #BBS to watch aircraft near #YUL (#Montreal airport), through my home #ADSB antenna setup. It's a #Swift NIO based app that runs on a #RaspberryPi (3) in my office network closet, so please play nicely.

Near #CYUL , it broadcasts on #Meshtastic (unencrypted channels: `yul-traffic` + `yul-alerts`), but also at: @yultraffic and @yulalerts .

20 years ago, even 10 years ago, ham radio software was dominated by Windows applications. If you were using Linux (or one of the BSDs), there were certain things you couldn't do. For years, I kept some desktop computers around just for running ham radio software. Pointing this out to other radio amateurs was frustrating because nobody seemed to care. (I assume it was because people took it for granted that ham radio gear would cost a fortune anyway, so why would they even consider free software?)
This changed dramatically when the #RaspberryPi was released in 2012, as it made it possible to run cheap RTL-SDR dongles exclusively on Linux. This trend skyrocketed with the release of FT-8 and the WSJT-X software in 2017. So the shift was marked by the breakthrough of the new digital modes and the arrival of the maker scene.
But as I have since realized, this does not represent a general breakthrough of non-proprietary and open standards. Young hams want me to discuss their projects in Discord channels or with other dubious means of communication, such as Telegram. (Where I would find a wiki or a forum on Lemmi much more obvious.)
Pointing this out to younger radio amateurs is frustrating: because nobody seems to care.
