With the #astral news I thought I'd share my thought bubble for a family of #python launchers for every platform, but in particular every flatpak Runtime and/or relevant BaseApp. The point would be to make a discovery flow for python itself for an app user, with aggressive dependency updating, reproducible builds, cve checking, and gradually guiding the user into managing environments and projects that just works like #uv.
I'd really like to make something that underscores the first step to writing an app somebody can use is to run a python interpreter they already have on a text file, rather than to get vscode and an ai assistant, and the hypothesis is that a rigidly defined concept of platform makes the idea more feasible than prior art.

I'm fairly upset about OpenAI straight up acquiring Astral (uv, ruff, ty, etc).
I did not have that on my bingo card, I sort of expected the traditional introduction of commercial offerings for their pypi replacement that would enshittify until the community duplicated the stack entirely, like Docker.
That kind of sucks because they're the only real headway in terms of "fixing" the Python ecosystem.

Whats the proper term for a text file that stores entities and the entities parameters?
Something like

I've played around with xml parsers a little before, but I'm looking to try and write a little parsing tool to extract and reformat the data. Thinking of using #Python. Anybody know of any tutorials or guides for writing simple parsing utilities?
