Seit 2024 kommt mit ZEN ein neuerer Browser ums Eck. Ein Mozilla-Eigengewächs!
Wer jetzt aber annimmt: „Cool, ein neuer Firefox!“, wird arg enttäuscht! Das „Look & Feel“ ist ein völlig anderes. ZEN verzichtet auf die gewohnte Mozilla-Telemetrie, auch die Möglichkeit, mit den Daten anderer Browser zu migrieren schlägt fehl. Nach einer Neuinstallation, wird eine Migration angeboten, jedoch funktioniert diese nur stark eingeschränkt: mittels einer HTML-Datei und auch das nur, wenn man seine FAV-Daten aus dem entsprechenden Browser vorher als eine solche Datei extrahiert hat.
Um nun nicht völlig nackt dazustehen, hat Mozilla dem ZEN die hauseigene Firefox-Sync-Funktion mitgegeben. Die funktioniert reibungslos, auch die installierten Addons werden übernommen. Einzig KeePassXC verweigert die Zusammenarbeit! ZEN erkennt den Passwort-Tressor, kann sich aber nicht mit ihm verbinden. Hier müssen wir auf ein entsprechendes Update hoffen.
Endlich mit an Bord ist das Widevine-Plugin (Netflix & Co.)
ZEN gibt es nur als universelle Binary oder als Flatpak…
