Well, a week ago, I was somewhat surprised to discover that Debian 12 does not recognize my exotic WLAN card. This frustrated me briefly because I needed it, but I still wanted to wait for the official release of Debian 13 and then see if the card would be recognized and could be used with the improved hardware support of the more recent kernel.
Last night, I messed up my system a bit through some drunken tinkering and was faced with a decision: Debian 12 for a few more days or Trixie already? I'm someone who always goes the official route, at least for the main system. But I thought to myself: whatever, just do it.
And what can I say? The jump from 12 to 13 is almost epoch-making! It's a completely different way of working; everything finally works out of the box, every piece of hardware, every peripheral, simply everything. The latest Gnome, almost the latest KDE, a usable kernel – Debian has finally managed to deliver a competitive Linux out of the box, where basically no tinkering is necessary anymore.
I'm so glad I didn't wait those few extra days. Now Debian has completely won me back!
