😲🤬 re: what's happened to @Codeberg today
The AI ballyhoo *is* a real DDoS against one of the few code hosting sites that has taken a stand against slurping #FOSS code into LLM training sets — in violation of #copyleft licenses.
This is what lawless & deregulation bring us. ∃ plenty of blame to go around, but #Microsoft & #GitHub deserve the bulk of it as they trailblazed the idea that FOSS code-hosting sites are lucrative targets.

Hello! For those just discovering the #TalkingPostgres #podcast—and those who are already regular listeners of this 30-episodes & counting pod—we just dropped a new 3-minute trailer (02:52 to be precise) & it is FUN 🔥

This trailer was so much fun to produce and I hope you love it. (Also: share it with friends who will enjoy. And subscribe. And drop a review. Word of mouth is the best fuel to keep a podcast going.)

Gratitude to Isaac Alves & @asw for collaborating on this.

And 🙏 to all the a-ma-zing podcast guests including those whose voices appear in this trailer: @simon, David Rowley, Tom Lane, @pwramsey, Shireesh Thota, @BajoranEngineer, @melanieplageman, Robert Haas, & Thomas Munro!

I wonder ....

The research found that "open-weight models use between 1.5 to 4 times more tokens — the basic units of AI computation — than closed models like those from OpenAI and Anthropic. For simple knowledge questions, the gap widened dramatically, with some open models using up to 10 times more tokens."

The AI company that conducted the research is Nous Research, which describes itself as "a leader in the development of human-centric language models and simulators."

On August 15, 1997, @Migueldeicaza announced the start of GNOME on the GTK mailing list¹. Twenty-eight years later a lot has changed, but we continue to develop and iterate on “a free and complete set of user friendly applications and desktop tools… based entirely on free software.”

To help us continue this work far into the future, we hope you join us in celebrating our birthday by becoming a Friend of GNOME today! 🎂
