@zwartboekaanbesteden Teleurstellend.

A great site to be inspired (again) and to become aware (again) that many cool and positive developments are ongoing. Sometimes negative vibes can be overwhelming, so just browse the website: linuxfoundation.eu/

You know what I love about #Devuan #Linux?

Doing an upgrade changes nearly nothing. No fancy desktop screenshots while running a bare-bones #openbox. No fancy hype colourful bling, just the simplicity of an efficient operating system and userland.

Devuan matches my #schizoid personality best.

The UCSB would be responsible for conversion tools from old to new, release to public and anyone could port their user config

I think this could relieve some issues with Open Source, if all the notes apps followed a standard, their config would be interchangable. If a project died you could copy your user config over to another app.

Etc for audio apps, video, on and on.

I think a solution to this could be a kind of User Config Standards Body, small single responsibility apps could say: hey we follow the UCSB this guarantees we adhere to a portable config.

The UCSB would have a standard that runs for 4 years in the same format (Json or Toml or Conf etc) after which a 6 month review to decide if changing the format to a modern one.

I'm on Linux about a year now. Before I'd been on Windows for decades.

One of the biggest issues I see with OpenSource is transferability.

Let's say YOU use a notes app called "Noterrox" and not enough use it and Dev support/updates stop. The only way for that software to live on is someone champions it, forks it or makes their own.

The problem with this is it tends towards user config having to be redone over and over by the user for basically the same functions. 1/
