@Harald @smiee Ihr habt beide absolut recht! Wir gehören wohl zu der Generation, die noch von der config.sys bis zum Videorecorder alles selbst programmiert hat. :-) Es ist schade, dass die Begeisterung dafür, wie Dinge unter der Haube funktionieren, oft verloren geht – aber gleichzeitig ist der Wunsch nach einem funktionierenden Werkzeug völlig legitim.
Eigentlich müsste es eine perfekte Mischung aus beidem sein: ein System, das einfach zu lernen ist, aber gleichzeitig die Tiefe bietet, es bei Bedarf schwierig zu meistern. In dem Punkt ist Linux Mint sicher ein exzellenter Einstieg.
Das Problem ist nur: Es gibt leider nicht den "Heiligen Gral" unter den Distributionen. Ich habe selbst schon eine halbe Ewigkeit mit Distro-Hopping verbracht – von Mint bis Arch, von Fedora bis Debian und Ubuntu. Aktuell liebäugle ich sogar damit, mir NixOS mal genauer anzusehen. Aber ich bin mir bewusst, dass ich damit wohl eher zu der kleinen Minderheit gehöre, die IT in diesem Umfang als Hobby betreibt.
Was die breite Masse bräuchte, wäre nicht die Zersplitterung in "Fedora-Leute", "Ubuntu-User" oder "Debian-Puristen", sondern eine echte Einstiegs-Plattform mit etwas mehr Marketing. Ein OS für Neulinge, bei dem alle Linux-Nerds und Liebhaber gemeinsam an einem Strang ziehen, um Windows-Umsteigern zu zeigen: „Hey, du brauchst keinen Big-Tech-Konzern, du kannst die Kontrolle über dein System haben – und es macht sogar Spaß!“ Spezialisieren kann man sich dann immer noch, wenn man erst einmal sicher angekommen ist.
