Since Krita was the reason I was able to afford painting when I had trouble paying for anything else, like food and rent, I later became a regular donator to make sure it can keep on being free and stay available. I'm sure there are other young artists out there who struggle like I did and I want them to have a free tool they can work with. I want them to not have to skip a meal just to pay for a software subscription, or at least be able to invest the money in new hardware instead because that's already expensive enough.

Back when I was younger and my free subscriptions for Photoshop and Paintshop I got from school ran out I had the option to pay high prices or either pirate the software. I tried cheaper alternatives like SAI and Clip Studio and some other applications I can't even remember, whatever had a free trial that was easy to extend. Than my former computer science teacher recommended me Krita. I wont lie to you, it instantly crashed when I tried to save a color palette (it was version 2.7 or so) but drawing and painting felt so good. I kept trying other programs shifting back and forth but ultimately stayed with Krita. Krita enabled me to completely switch to Linux, and it enabled be to keep painting when I had barely enough money to feed myself, since it didn't cost anything and ran on my potato of a computer.

Krita has many flaws, as a regular user I know this, there's no denying that. But many other painting softwares I used in the past also had them. The difference is that Krita has an unbeatable price tag of being free forever and I can regularly see the progress being made by the developers.
