I was wrangling some "big data" using Unix command line utilities on a Mac, and to my surprise those that come with macOS have insanely poor performance.
Like `tail -n 1000` does not complete on a file of few gigabytes within a few minutes, neither does `grep` with a thousand patterns, while the GNU versions installed with Homebrew take dozens of seconds at most.
Does Apple ship implementations written in the 70s?
