With regard to Cascade #DNSSEC signing performance, we're testing with a zone with 25M records, which adds ~10M more records while signing.
Loading takes 25 seconds and signing using OpenSSL/Ring local keys takes 60 seconds on top of that.
If we use SoftHSM, the process takes 259 seconds. That's already three times faster than OpenDNSSEC. Once we’ve merged batching support [1] things will speed up even more.

@oldperl Starke Beobachtung! 😉
Thousands of North Korean IT workers have used stolen and made-up US identities to pose as Western developers, engineers, and tech consultants to funnel hundreds of millions of dollars a year to Pyongyang’s military programs.
The North Koreans rely on help from #opensource #AI and even live face-masking software to hide their true identities and locations during video calls from countries such as China, Laos and Russia.

I have been asked: "walled gardens are helping protect the majority of owners?". This is in the context of mobile platform ecosystems.
I think this is difficult to assess. If you look at the numbers, the damage done by malicious Android apps on the "official" Play Store eclypses the occasional malicious mobile open-source app, but one could argue it's just because large numbers and market share. Alternative app stores like Accrescent take the trust model extremely seriously and I would 100% trust more a well-known app there than on Play Store.
Regardless, the problem is another one. I don't buy the "you'll own nothing and you'll be happy" narrative. I should be able to run anything I want on my own hardware. And yes, I understand this is an orthogonal problem, or at least it should be: A world should be possible, where I can choose whether to RENT (this is the correct term) an "official Android device" (and be restricted on what software I can run on it), or use my OWN device. But with the existing abusive duopoly, this is a non-choice: using a "NON-RENTED device" will be made more and more difficult in the future. Already today, living in society without the Google- or Apple-based attestation mechanisms is hard, and I can only see it getting harder without political will and proper regulatory action.
A world where "walled gardens" are mandatory, and used to "safeguard the majority of users" is certainly possible: it's called "People's Republic of China". And I'm not saying this in a snarky way, it's a valid model to evaluate, and we can certainly have a discussion about it. But we have to call it the way it is.

"what role do large companies or nonprofits or individual maintainers have... To what extent does someone's level of contribution matter versus what type of person they are? ...these are valuable discussions to be having, and we're having them in the open" #opensource
