there is no true competitor to AD in the Open Source world, to speak of. There's Samba, but that can emulate an AD server in the capacity of a file server (and I suggest just using the older WORKGROUP style share for simplicity, and to save grief). Samba has limited group policy features. A sane person valuing sanity would Abandon AD, eschewing it any and every way possible, IMHO. Abandon a mindset looking to put a square peg in a round hole. #Linux #OpenSource

There was a slide in my presentation yesterday that showed #opensource initiatives at the European, national, regional and municipal level, to show that there are a lot individual initiatives happening already. And I included a bunch of #Nextcloud logo's because it's the solution everyone always discovers first and asks us about (not an endorsement btw).
Afterwards I was asked if I knew of #OpenCloud? I didn't and will look into them, but good to see that there's healthy competition for NC. 🔥
