Open Source Software is characterised not only by a technical core but also by a strong normative one: #transparency, #collaboration, and the #freedom to use software for any purpose, whether private or commercial. Yet it is precisely this last principle that, in many respects, gives rise to debate. 💻

An npm bundle shipped on March 31 with the source map attached by mistake. That was enough for a community team to rebuild the Claude Code harness from scratch. Claw Code, a clean-room Rust rewrite, passed 100,000 GitHub stars in one day (fastest ever) and climbed past 180,000. Anthropic earns roughly 2.5 billion a year on the original. When the harness is the product and the weights live elsewhere, the moat is a paragraph of docs away.
