I get that not everyone is into the "philosophy" of 3D printing, but I don't understand why everyone thinks so short term about it when they buy Bambu Lab printers.

Consumer 3D printing started with the open source RepRap project and when the commercial patents held by Stratasys expired, many new companies came up and used the open source experience of RepRap to innovate and make new open source printers.

I am not denying that Bambu Lab has made considerable progress with the tech, but it is very much in your worst interest to support the effort to "proprietarize" this tech. 3D printers are still, at the end of the day, CNC machines and they are not suited for use by every single person in their current state like what Bambu Lab is trying to do.

Less competition (because of user lock-in) = less effort to make it better, less commonly available tools/spares, no right to repair (not being able to repair actual CNC machines??). Maybe I'll write a long-form blog post about it...

Servo published v0.1.0 on crates.io this week, the first formal embeddable release of the Rust browser engine. You get ServoBuilder, WebView, and pixel readback on stable Rust today. For context: Chromium Embedded Framework and Electron have owned embedding for a decade. Both run on a C++ engine with a long memory-safety history. Servo ran 13 years as research. Now it is a cargo install. Chromium alternatives only matter when they are one dependency away.

I use Immich to manage my photo library, It's got tremendously awesome features but it's broad search is... broad.

I do however kinda like that I get my USS Defiant model showing up in searches for "miata" it makes a lot of sense to me

Personally, I hope Fedora holds off the release of Fedora 44 until they have tested Linux Kernel 7.0.

Fedora 44 no longer displays as a beta, development, or pre-release copy.

This does not mean the Fedora 44 is out of Beta, only that it soon will be.

GitNex is evolving with version 13, and it's big.

A new way to create or edit an issue with a fullscreen editor gives you more room to write everything cleanly and easily, complete with a markdown renderer.

And of course, there's a new fullscreen content/file viewer too.
