A lot of people spend a lot of time and energy getting their friends and family to use their #selfhosted solutions. Somehow, after briefly mentioning to my mother how I set up my own #Matrix messaging service, she has decided that that is what she is going to exclusively use to communicate to me and my brother (whom I also forcefully created an account for). She even initiated a voice call to talk to me; something which up until that point I had no idea my infrastructure could even support.

@zoulou2000 ici en DDT-M, nous avons Tchap.. Quant à l'utiliser... Le niveau de connaissance en informatique des collègues étant assez limité, il faut reconnaître que le système de clés de sécurité est... rédhibitoire. Ce n'est pas lié à #tchap, mais à #matrix qui est derrière, si je ne dis pas de bêtises. Pour le reste, je trouve que c'est un bon outil.

Well, restoring my #signal backup fails. Changed android ROMs, hence the need. I can even get so far as seeing the restored conversations. But trying to open one leads to the app crashlooping. I've tried to repeat the process a few times without success.
I tried different signal apps: #langis, #molly, signal from aurora store, signal apk from the website. No dice.
So no signal for now, bleuhrg 😒
My #xmpp and #matrix restores worked fine.

@matrix Is there a place the Matrix community can discuss protocol-level issues that isn't GritHub? If not, it really is about time to set one up. Lemmy and PieFed are options for an official threadiverse instance, and both Discourse and NodeBB now have some level of ActivityPub support.
This could even be an opportunity to dogfood adding Matrix protocol support to a forum package.
