Present thought
Mastodon's the right model. But to be truly *useful* politcally - the Bluesky/Mastodonian idea of "we will make our safe space over here" might be pleasant for many and that's fine
But they're not healthy for useful political discourse, which is often ugly, but generates the necessary talk.
The discussions I'm seeing on Twitter/threads e.g. left v. liberal are finally getting "good." (among others)

I had heard about “Tribela” on a CBC report yesterday. By the report, I had thought there was a chance it was an ActivityPub base platform. But looking more closely at it, that does not seem to be the case.
Looks like another VC funded closed platform. I commend the focus on moderation and safety. Maybe it isn’t too late to have them open up and take that focus into the #fediverse

Ach guck, der Artikel von @joergi im "Plastic Bomb" Fanzine habe ich erst jetzt gesehen. Klar ihr hier kennt das Fediverse schon aber den Link kann ja auch über anderen online Kommunikationen oder gar ausgedruckt (macht mensch das heute noch?) an andere Teilen. Denen kann ja sogleich auch die darin aufgelisteten Punk Fediverse Services empfohlen werden.
