Onboarding on Mastodon (follow up post)
Please let users discover posts and content rather than users: let them choose who to follow without biasing the network towards big accounts.
Methods that do not actively promote the apparition of large "influencer" accounts typically do not rely on user-based properties (like number of follows, activity, etc) but on semantic content (typically hashtags, here).

The funny thing is, if you want to actively discourage the creation of influencers, you would actually have to use user-based properties to make highly-active or hugely followed users *less* likely to have their posts recommended.
Not that I think we should do that, but very popular people already have a disproportionate influence due to the way the network functions, so I don't think we should favour that dynamics even more.
