On other sites... waking up to hundreds of notifications immediately brought about an intense fear... my brain thinking 'Oh no... WTF did I do?'
On the fediverse... I just go oh... I've kinda gone viral again.
That kinds sums up the peace of mind being on Mastodon brings you... Normally going viral on corpo owned right wing loving social media sites (which is all of them) and getting those kind of notifications... means the trolls have taken issue with something you said and are in full on attack mode... with all of the hate and vitriol that brings with it.
Not here... it's calm, it's peaceful and even though the same subjects are talked about... the trolls are so easily defeated and sidelined because they... like in the real world... are a tiny minority with their tiny minds... and with no right wing corpo owned social media amplifying their hate and bile... they can't gain traction and when they start too... they are defederated.
We've seen instances get taken over by them and the instance gets isolated... preaching into the void with very few to hear them anymore.

one thing I think Mastodon and Bluesky would benefit from is per-feed mute words (on Mastodon it'd be the followed hashtags)
I'd love to mute anything about Windows on the Linux feeds on both because I'm not going to Linux to see people whinge about Microsoft all the time. Mastodon's slightly better but still has this issue.

@Veza85UE @hpod16 @wouterkobes I always thought it was weird for governments to rely structurally on private parties for their communication. At least now it has to be slowly dawning on them that they ought to put their money where their mouth is? I'd say we need serious public investment in things like #LibreOffice, #Matrix, #Nextcloud and of course #Mastodon but failing that, posting here seems very low hanging fruit!
