#Mastodon idea—plain text attachments:
• Rationale: an alternative to screenshots of text plus alt text
• The temptation is to get fancy and support (e.g.) rendered Markdown or syntax highlighting, but keeping things simple has many benefits.
Alternatively, one could increase character limits for posts but, personally, I like the limits (otherwise you may as well write a blog post). Text attachments do give you an escape hatch if you really must post a long text.

Wishing I could have the 5000-character limit of this Akkoma instance and the mute and auto-delete nuance of Mastodon.
I won’t go back to a 500-character limit, and I don’t want to unfollow some of the very sharp thinkers I’m following now, but I really need to mute some of y’all for a time because goddam is my mental health suffering. Unfortunately, Akkoma only allows Mute/Unmute with no timer.
Guess I’ll just have to do that work manually for now, but if the Fedigods are listening . . . 🙏
