If you plan to upgrade #Mastodon to v4.5.0 on #ARM64, there will be an instant SIGILL when running Vite. The fix is trivial once you realize it.

This time Mastodon upgrade took 4-5 hours on Raspberry Pi 3:
- first backups
- Ruby upgrade & recompilation (1 h)
- Mastodon itself & asset recompilation (3 h)
- swearing, beers & debugging (1h)
Kinda wanna archive my furry.engineer interactions/conversations, just for the sake of it, and so I can delete the old account
Are there good tools for that, or would I have to write that tool myself?
I mainly want to archive mentions and the whole conversation thread of it, ideally to a nice HTML page. Or, I don't care, mbox format would work for me as well. As long as it's not just plain json, but something I can browse visually in a nice way.

A Quote Post on #Mastodon should be called a Quoost.
You either Boost or Quoost.
Supongo que ya llego tarde para hacer el chistecito de las citas y la feature de #Mastodon 4.5 ¿no?

"But there is nothing stopping anybody from building their own Mastodon "server" (read "Nazi bar")"
that's already the case
#Trump's #TruthSocial is a #Mastodon server (well, technically a fork of it)
it doesn't matter if by kicking out the nazis they organize their own servers. that isn't remotely a valid reason to let them in on any rationale whatsoever
you nuke their servers, you nuke their accounts. scorched earth. that is the only way
Very pleased to see that #Mastodon 4.5.0 has dealt with two of the major issues that I have long proclaimed kept Mastodon in amateur status: 1) Missing replies 2) Quote posts. Great work! -L
I don't think Mastodon *has* to copy X or Bsky but the fact the timeline does this makes me think a lot of people come here, see the confusing display that is replies and threads going bottom to top and decide to go back to other platforms.
first one is the default, second one a quick mock-up. I really hope this is possible to do. Lines connecting replies works, why not posts on the Home timeline so it's less confusing to read

Les cuento que en algunas publicaciones ya se pueden "citar", por ejmplo, esta que menciono a @AnabelRaquel, ahora queda anidada en este toot, es una función nueva en #Mastodon y en #Iztasocial
With people doing a major #mastodon 4.5 version upgrade, I want to say some things:
1) Please reach out to me if you need help. DM me here and I'll give you my telegram, discord, matrix, or whatever.
2) https://derg.nz/dragonhive/web/sysadmin/kb/blog/2023/10/02/how-to-fix-mastodon.html I wrote this 2 years ago when I was running into a major version upgrade gone wrong, maybe things have changed, maybe it'll be useful, either way it outlines some tricks and things you can try to unfck your installation.
3) CREATE A DATABASE BACKUP. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL
He's baaaaaack ...
OK fun seekers, I'm back. My instance has been down for a couple of days, as the upgrade from 4.3.4->4.50 was the most painful of my #Mastodon experience since it began almost exactly three years ago.
I won't get into all the details here and now because there were a number of issues resulting in problems, but I want to thank everyone VERY much who offered advice -- both regarding docker and Mastodon itself, because ultimately they're the ones who pointed toward the path to resolution.
I will make one specific comment here directed toward the Mastodon release maintainers. Currently, the release notes for 4.5 specify using a "docker-compose <args>" command for various docker versions of Mastodon build and related functions. While this no doubt is correct for some environments, in others it is very wrong, and will result in sending users on a wild goose chase searching out errors in their docker-compose.yml file that do not exist.
In some docker environments, the command that must be used is "docker compose <args>". Yeah, pretty close but no cigar. I would urge the release notes be updated to explain this issue! Could save some folks a lot of time!
Thank you again, all! -L
