LiveJournal actually had a set of promises to users that was released in 2000. They functioned much like a Bill of Rights or Magna Carta, preventing ads, spam, and a wide variety of other forms of #enshittification .
However, when the founder transitioned the open source project into more of a corporation, which was prepped for sale to SixApart, these promises were REPEATEDLY changed and broken, until discarded entirely by 6A.
#mastodon needs a BINDING BILL OF RIGHTS to compel compliance.

with great power comes great temptation / great responsibilities.
I think it would be WELL WITHIN THE RIGHTS of Mastodon's users to urge the board of supervisors to lay out FIRM, REGULARLY PEER REVIEWED COMMITMENTS TO ITS USERS - with user comments & feedback being a key part of this - as to how they will transparently operate in ways that fully comply, in both words and deeds, to their commitments.
We need a structure where the MOST POWERFUL see the guardrails.
