@BOOKHOUSE: likes, follows, and clicks may be the currency of #SocialMedia, but they are not the only measures nor even the most salient. For example, what is the reach and #diversity of each platform? What are the interest that support each platform? What is the significance of limiting message size on each platform? How well is alt text and #nonabelist technology supported?
#mastodon kicks ass in almost every measure of #SocialMedia likes, clicks, and follows notwithstanding. The community is the secret sauce.

So, today I learned that if you set `visibility: ‘private’` via the API in a post you’re making on Mastodon, the post is public.
If you want it to be “private”* (as in a direct message) you have to set `visibility: ‘direct’`
`conclusion: ‘I love it’`
* It’s still not private because it is not end-to-end encrypted.
