So what *should* #Mastodon's architecture be?
Back in 2022 I heard a lot about how poorly Mastodon (or maybe Activity Pub) scales, bc of how much every instance has to poll other instances.
I'm curious if there's ideas out there for how this could have been done better. If you have a "Well, if I were going to invent Mastodon from scratch, here's how I would have done it differently" rant, I would like to hear it.

I've just unfollowed/unsubscribed from @BookSNS. I can't take seeing so many people asking for book recommendations that I could help them with, while being COMPLETELY UNABLE to respond because BookSNS only operates one way as far as Mastodon is concerned. Their presence here is a joke, because THEY DON'T GET RESPONSES FROM MASTODON. They contribute NOTHING here.
Sorry to yell so much. But I'm incredibly frustrated. Book recommendations are one of my peak skills as well as something I really enjoy doing. It was the one thing I really missed when I left Reddit. And now I'm being constantly teased here on Mastodon about it.
I hope someday they wise up and connect to Mastodon properly. Or better still, that an active book recommendation request community springs up here. I've tried to start one, but had no luck. I guess we just don't have enough users yet.
In the meantime...I'll keep reading books and writing reviews on BobQuasit@bookwyrm.social.
