La Noche de San Silvestre no es solo uvas, brindis y promesas que caducan en febrero.
Detrás del 31 de diciembre se esconde una historia mucho más oscura de lo que parece.
Su nombre viene de San Silvestre I, un papa del siglo IV que murió ese día, sí… pero la tradición popular decidió no quedarse solo con el dato histórico. Añadió brujas, dragones y espíritus con mala intención, porque una noche de cambio nunca viene sola.
Cuenta la leyenda que un dragón demoníaco habitaba una cueva en Roma, sembrando el terror. San Silvestre logró dominarlo y sellarlo, purificando el lugar. Desde entonces, la noche quedó marcada como un momento en el que lo viejo, lo oscuro y lo peligroso debía ser expulsado antes de que el nuevo año entrara.
De ahí el ruido, los fuegos artificiales, las campanas: no solo celebramos, espantamos.
Ahuyentamos lo que no queremos que cruce el umbral.
Brujas, malas energías, desgracias… y algún que otro recuerdo que pesa demasiado.
Tirar lo viejo, vestir de rojo, hacer ruido hasta que tiemble el suelo: rituales disfrazados de fiesta para cerrar ciclos y proteger lo que viene.
Así que esta noche, cuando brindes, recuerda:
no solo celebras un año nuevo…
también estás sellando puertas que no deben volver a abrirse.
