I feel like 5% of is .

This was the end of a discussion where I said it's difficult to get average users to switch to a niche communicator. I have seen this a few times here, a person exploding over something equally as boring as a communicator

Some interesting thoughts and a good read I found on the net:

**Plunging into bathing traditions around the world, from saunas to onsens, hammams and mineral springs**
By Jessie Stoelwinder, 24 January 2026
Across millennia, continents and cultures, communal bathing has formed a core pillar of daily life.
While modern times have elevated the ritual to luxurious heights, ancient civilisations sought water and heat in more humble settings — long before the terms wellness and self-care entered the vernacular.
The earliest known organised baths emerged in Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley (modern-day Iraq and Pakistan) around 3300 BCE, which historians believe served both cleansing and social purposes.
Traditions in Egypt, Greece, Rome, Persia and India followed suit, incorporating their version of hot and cold plunges, steam rooms and herbal remedies. Societies across Europe, Asia and the Americas, too, developed their own methods of sweating it out.
While the nuances of these customs vary around the world, many of the themes are universal.
Bathhouses served as a gathering ground for community, bridging the gap between the physical and the spiritual. They provided recovery and refuge, and their mineral waters were revered for their healing properties.
And many of these rituals have stood the test of time. Experiencing a country’s bathing culture is a unique way to gain a sense of place, allowing travellers to dip their toes into deep-rooted lineages.
From smoky saunas to volcanic springs, these are the traditions worth seeking out for a local immersion.
Finland
Sauna
Often considered the birthplace of the sauna, Finland has more saunas than cars — one for every two people, or thereabouts. The traditional design is a heated cabin lined with aromatic wood, with bursts of steam created when users pour water on hot stones. Many communal saunas heighten the experience with contrast therapy, like Loyly Sauna in Helsinki, where guests can shock their systems with an icy plunge into the Baltic Sea after basking in the heat.
Sweden’s bastu is a little milder than its Finnish counterpart, while Norway’s badstue can be accompanied by snow rolling to cool down...

I’ve been cleaning up my following list and came to two small conclusions: it’s genuinely a bit sad how many bots have gone silent since the last time I did this, because I actually enjoyed those little emoji forests they used to grow on my feed, and I really wish there were an auto-unfollow feature the same way there’s auto-delete for toots after a certain time.

I am not doomscrolling on mastodon!

I see no doom here.

I see people fighting for the better.

I see people showing that we have alternatives.

I see cats, dogs and nature.

In my bubble maybe, but you are welcome too!

there is a reason politicians are not on mastodon. this is a community. not about getting votes. antithetical to the neoliberal superstructures they are protecting. there are many different definitions of "communal democracy" depending on who you ask and what you are reading, but I prefer the medical/sociological interpretation that is very similar to the overall goals of degrowth, and what many state Mastodon is about. there is convergence.

Have lost track of the number of times have seen a quote post advising that folk read the post quoted, only for the quote posted to be unavailable for viewing or pending approval.

Which, okay, sure.

Except that unlike dropping a link to another post in your own post, a quote post is implemented so that there's no citation. If the quoted post embeds, then find, you can click through to the original. But if not, you're just left with a mystery.

What had the quoting poster attempting to share? Whatever it was, they failed in their attempt.

Citations matter, folks. A UI that expurgates them is less than helpful.

(A cursory examination suggests that the link ain't even just obfuscated, but is absent entirely from the HTML source in advanced web client, known only to the server.)
