In the past few weeks there has been a bot farm hammering small Mastodon instances with requests for what looks like emoji-related assets and the hashtag API.
More specifically, it appears this bot farm has now come for my Mastodon instance, because the number of requests has doubled in the last 24 hours, with a lot of the requests being API requests for a single JSON file.
Even more specifically, looking at data provided by my CDN provider, a lot of the bots appear to be using IP addresses associated with Tencent Singapore.

I just discovered this bot farm because the number of web requests to the web server running my Mastodon instance doubled in 24 hours (the number of requests in the last 24 hours according to my CDN provider are with this reply).
Also somewhat interesting is that many of the bots appear to be connecting from IP addresses associated with Tencent Singapore.

It's a long shot but since migrating my VPS and domain hosting the awesome #FediBuzz is stuck on 'Waiting for relay's approval'. Existing relays for tags seem fine. I've tried the usual maintenance like clearing my server cache and even removing all existing relays but it's still stuck. Anyone else had a similar issue?
Kinda stuck as that's my fire-hose of content for my #selfhosted server.

My point:
If someone doesn't use alt text, we help them, we cheerfully engage them
In some instances they are an asshole who still won't use alt text
If not, we won a convert
Meanwhile, nastiness certainly won't convince the asshole
*And nastiness will drive away those who would have responded positively if we were nice*
