We can spend hours in meetings debating architecture, mapping out user journeys & writing endless specification docs.

But until it's written, it's just theory.

#Git revolutionized software development & gave us the safety net to "show the #code" fearlessly. It allows us to branch off, build a prototype, and prove a concept without breaking the main project.

How often do your team's debates end with someone saying, "Let's just build a quick branch & see what happens"? 👇

I feel strangely elated that I made my first repo on Codeberg. Its a standard procedure, and was pretty easy. For us who dont use git much, they have very good documentation to remind me of basic commands. I'll test Codeberg Pages next.

#WritersCoffeeClub Feb. 24 – What’s your greatest challenge in fleshing out your setting?

Lack of sources for in-depth research is the most frustrating, especially regarding sensory details. It means I have to imagine, gloss over, or extrapolate, and that's unnerving when I always try to base my descriptions and narratives on accurate, or at least defensible, research. Then again I know to cut the cord at some point and let my researcher's conscience hurt a little in the interests of a good story.

The other extreme, having too much information, can also be a challenge in picking and choosing. In my latest work of short #HistoricalFiction I found myself simply dumping the research into my draft and had to stop myself: There's a #git commit from last month whose message literally reads, "Getting into infodump territory, backtracking" xD Much of the same information did make it into the final draft, but with more structure and space.

I have a #git repo which has some relatively large files stored as normal git files. That's fine, it causes no issues, just makes the initial 'git clone' take a bit; they don't need to change ever really.

But now I've installed Git LFS. Not into that repo, but it's on my PC. And now, when I clone that repo, git tells me it found 8 files which "should've been pointers". It then changes those files to be in LFS.

How can I avoid this? I don't want git to automatically modify my repo! #programming

Did you know Git's architecture is literally divided into "Plumbing" and "Porcelain"? 🚽✨

Linus Torvalds designed the core engine (Plumbing: git hash-object) separate from the user interface (Porcelain: git status).

Git was always meant to have layers built on top of it to make it human-readable!

SmartGit handles the pipes. You focus on the code 🚀

Let's hear your worst "plumbing" nightmares below 👇
