Recently we've been thinking about how we share code (and other design files) for our #OpenSource projects and products.

@amcewen has written about the flaws in centralized options like Github and Gitlab, and why self-hosting isn't the answer.

Maybe we need some #CodeCommons?

Im Workshop erfahren Admins, wie sie GitLab aufsetzen und warten. Darüber hinaus lernen sie, wie sie die Instanz exakt auf ihre Bedürfnisse abstimmen.

After using git bisect to isolate a bug, I nearly always forget to run git bisect reset to clean up.

Years ago I changed my git status alias to yell at me about it and on Friday it totally saved me.

Thanks for that, past Di.

Sigh, I'm really thinking about at least scaling down my presence at GitHub *a lot* or even leaving completely, and this thread makes me want to do so even more. However, I have some publicly used libraries on there, and there's the AI crawlers ruining Git servers (I wrote about why I'm afraid to open up to that dammit.nl/afraid-to-git.html ). I might just take the plunge anyway...

Launchpad Bazaar will shutdown December 2025

Bazaar and Git are both version controlling systems for source code and for projects. However, Git became more popular than Canonical’s Bazaar, and Launchpad was hosting the free Bazaar code hosting platform, just like how GitHub, GitLab, and their likes host code using Git, for open-source projects. The back-end in the Launchpad’s code hosting functionality is Bazaar, and the front-end is web-based.

Bazaar was at its peak a decade ago, but Git has dethroned it to become more popular across software projects. As a result, Launchpad is in the process of shutting down the Bazaar code hosting service, as projects like Breezy attempted to relive Bazaar.

The second phase of the blackout was supposed to start on September 1st, but users have reported that the Bazaar operations were still in place as of today. When a user reported this, a reply has been posted, clarifying the situation.

The team have decided to extend the Launchpad Bazaar shutdown to December 11th, 2025, as of today’s reply. However, they may extend the shutdown again, depending on the situation. So, you have more free time to migrate all your Bazaar projects!

You’ll have to follow the instructions in this blog article here.

As for the documentation, you’ll have to manually import them from Launchpad to projects like DocFX (for .NET projects, our recommendation for API references), GitBook (our recommendation for general docs), or Read the Docs (suitable replacement).

Please migrate your Bazaar projects before December 11th, 2025!

I'm not good at #git, so please come at me with the fire of a thousand suns if this is a stupid question. If there is a project on Github that I want to #fork can I fork it to #codeberg or do I have to do it all on ew, #github?

I still have a few #git earring pairs lying around. 7€ plus shipping from germany each. Wood, CNC-milled.

Maybe looking for a nerdy present? I do not make them anymore because time is a scarce resource 😇.

Just send me a DM here if you want a pair. I do not make money from this, I just want more nerdy stuff to exist 🤓☝️.
