afaict from the struggles of the past few days with this, it just seems fundamentally incompatible with #friendica . i speak in utter technical ignorance of any of the actual code, but i feel, tbh, unsurprised at this when we consider that friendica is much older than masto, & these days many peeps falsely believe masto IS fedi... so maybe this new relay wotsit was written without any consideration of older platforms at all?
even if my guess is entirely wrong, the basic fact remains... seeking to make a home on a small friendica server, if one wants to follow lots of tags, is quite a miserable experience for me so far.

BACKGROUND
hello
i have accounts on two small Friendica instances, this one & also @msdropbear42
being small, they both have, to be blunt, really lousy hashtag-fetching behaviour from the wider fediverse. given i follow a lot of tags [these are as important or maybe even more so, than simply following only personal accounts, for me], this ongoing lousiness poses a real threat for my two accounts having any prospect of being serious daily fediverse "homes" for me, given both instances miss out on a large proportion of posts / tags that i routinely see each day in my Masto & Sharkey accounts.
I have tried using relay.fedi.buzz follows, eg tag-firefoxnightly@relay.fedi.buzz on another of my friendica accounts, but tbh it's a PITA coz i cannot simply do it myself, but instead must explicitly request the instance owner to manually add them at the server level via terminal. that kills all spontaneity for me.
recently i became aware of FollowBackBot - _followback@tags.pub [read the whole thread if you want all the background; https://friendica.au/display/7c8d90bc-252d65d8d081ff63-cb0df0a1], but in none of my friendica accounts am i able to actually follow it. eg, in this current account, the pic below shows the failure:
can anyone pls help me solve this?

#Friendica web interface is perfect to me, the only thing I miss is the opportunity to quickly share a link.
I have to copy the link, coming here to Friendica, creating a new post and pasting the link in it.
I've installed an app only to quickly share a link and the choice went to #Fedilab
The problem with Fedilab is that I've tried both local timeline and public timeline and home timeline but none of them is like Friendica's.
In Friendica I have the original post with all comments below. If someone comments on an old post that post comes up in the timeline.
In Fedilab, if someone comments on an old post that comment only comes up in the timeline but to read the post that comment is about I have to click on the comment and a page opens with the original post.
The timeline in Fedilab is a list of comments not a list of posts. It looks cumbersome to me.
Is there a way to have Friendica's timeline in Fedilab?

Friendica-Addon "RealMember"
Ich hab mal wieder ein wenig was mit der KI zusammengeklöppelt - ja was soll ich sagen, ihr kennt das doch schon von mir. 😉
Wie viele andere Admins auch nerven mich diese Spam-Anmeldungen. Was bislang für Friendica an Addons verfügbar ist, hat mir persönlich nicht ausgereicht. Also habe ich mich die Tage daran gesetzt und mit der KI etwas erstelllt - das Addon "RealMember" für Friendica. Das Addon hatte ich nun bei mir getestet und ausprobiert.
Was wir alle auf unseren Instanzen möchten sind echte User. Keine Fake-User, keine Spam-Bots, o.ä. Nicht immer ist die Entscheidung ganz so einfach zu treffen für uns Admins. RealMember soll dabei ein wenig unterstützen.
Vorgegeben im Addon sind schon eine kleine Anzahl an TrashMailern. Aber das reicht bei weitem nicht aus. Deswegen berücksichtigt das Addon zum einen "Nicht erlaubte Domains für E-Mails" aus dem Adminbereich. Zusätzlich kann das Addon aber auch auf eine externe Liste mit aktuell bekannten Trashmailern zurückgreifen, diese Liste kann bei Bedarf entweder manuell über das Terminal, aber auch per Cronjob täglich aktualisiert und lokal eingespielt werden. Achtung: Diese Datei muss dafür natürlich beschreibbar sein!

📖 Was kann RealMember?
✅ Das kann RealMember:
- Risiko-Bewertung: Jeder registrierte Account wird beim Laden des Dashboards automatisch anhand mehrerer Kriterien analysiert und erhält einen Spam-Risiko-Score (0 % bis 100 %).
- Wegwerf-E-Mail-Erkennung: E-Mails werden gegen eine große, Community-gepflegte Liste bekannter Wegwerf-Anbieter geprüft (Disposables).
- Verdächtige TLDs: RealMember erkennt auffällige Domain-Endungen (z. B. .xyz, .click, .top), die unverhältnismäßig oft für Spam missbraucht werden.
- Keyword-Scanning: Nutzernamen und Registrierungs-Notizen werden auf fast 200 bekannte Spam-Begriffe aus den Bereichen Krypto, Marketing, Erotik und Pharma gescannt.
- Bot-Erkennung (Entropie): Nicknames und E-Mail-Präfixe ohne natürliche Wortstruktur (z. B. zxrt889p) können durch eine Vokal/Konsonant-Musteranalyse identifiziert werden.
- Admin-Regeln: Deine nativen E-Mail-Sperrlisten aus den Friendica-Settings (disallowed_email) fließen direkt in das Scoring ein (+100 % Kritik-Risiko).
- Suchen & Filtern: RealMember erlaubt die schnelle Filterung nach "Spamverdacht" und das exakte Sortieren nach dem höchsten Risiko-Score, wodurch verdächtige Accounts sofort ganz oben stehen.
🔒 Sicherheit:
- Rein lesend / Read-Only: RealMember führt keine Datenbank-Änderungen (INSERT, UPDATE oder DELETE) durch.
- Keine Automatismen: RealMember wird niemals eigenmächtig Accounts sperren, löschen oder bearbeiten.
- Privatsphäre: Das Dashboard ist ausschließlich für den Site-Administrator sichtbar.
⚠️ Das kann RealMember nicht:
- Keine Registrierungs-Zensur: RealMember blockt niemanden bei der Anmeldung.
- Keine Push-Alarme: Es gibt keine Echtzeit-Benachrichtigungen bei neuen Spammern.
- Kein Inhalts-Scan: Benutzerbeiträge, private Nachrichten oder Kommentare werden von RealMember nicht gelesen oder analysiert.
- Keine Garantie: RealMember ist "nur" ein Werkzeug. Ein Score von 100% bedeutet nicht zwangsläufig, dass es ein Spammer ist (False Positives sind möglich). Die finale Entscheidung triffst immer du im nativen Moderations-Tab von Friendica.
Was RealMember ebenfalls nicht ist: Kein Honeypot. Soweit ich darüber informiert bin, verfügt Friendica über einen eigenen Honeypot direkt bei der Registrierung!
Wichtig: Wie immer gilt 'Nutzung auf eigene "Gefahr"'. Ich habe das Addon nach bestem Wissen und Gewissen auf Sicherheitslücken und Performanceprobleme getestet, aber ich übernehme keine Garantie für irgendwas.
Und: Es ist "nur" ein Addon! Kein Addon ist perfekt. Ich kann nur empfehlen, sich NIE blind auf die "Entscheidung" eines Addons zu verlassen.

there's a really nice theme in friendica.au called Bookface, which if possible to use in your instance would be just ripper bonza, heehee

after much prevarication, due to the unsolved issue of the instance not fetching most of my followed hashtags [latest post: https://friendica.au/display/f3535bde-5769-d73a-ae22-15e898311506], i decided this arvo to press ahead anyway & import my Masto contacts here, via the corresponding Masto following_accounts.csv file. it did not work; nothing happened, despite a brief popup msg telling me the import had finished.
wondering if the #friendica contacts tool possibly didn't like the other account info after each account name [various combos of true, false], i edited the text file to remove them all, & retried. it still didn't work.
i feel a bit silly, in that there must be some obvious error i'm making, but atm i can't see it.
this is a sample from the edited file i've tried to import:

@frauadmin @wansti @aj @_followback today i have mucked about some more with this, & now have formed a tentative conclusion that this service is not compatible with friendica.
the essential first step is to
FollowBackBotFollow me and I will follow you back. Your public posts will then be boosted through tags.pub. Unfollow me, and the boosts will stop
but afaict the #friendica GUI simply provides no facility to DO that initial Follow of this service. i tested in #FirefoxNightly, #Floorp, & Vivaldi.
in Masto, per pic below, searching for that tag does generate the standard Masto Follow Hashtag button.
otoh by contrast, in friendica a completely different page ensues, per next pic, which has NO button or any other way obvious to me, to actually DO the Follow.
alas, it seems i still have no good way so far to expand the reach of hashtag-fetching across fedi, in a small friendica instance.
