I'd like to mention how good it feels to participate in the #fediverse (Mastodon/Lemmy in particular), with only a small time investment to curate what I want to see and engage with.
It Just Works™.
It turns the incessant deluge of garbage into a conscious and easily reversible pull-operation, based on my current interests, and that is very much empowering, as every tool should be.
I started out by scrolling through my instance's toots, where I rightfully expected some old friends, like-minded and interesting people to scroll by and who I want to hear more of, and through their boosts I steadily find more and more interesting people and expand, slowly and deliberately.
Not bullish on hashtags, though. I prefer following interesting people rather than topics, and so far I do not fear missing out on anything. Seems like building a bubble works better than being groomed into one by an entity with ulterior motives.
Feels a lot like 2000's Internet 'round these parts. I consider that a good thing.

I won't be uploading my ID to any social platforms.
I still have some accounts on the kinds of platforms the #Labor gov bill is targeting (I'm assuming they're not even aware of the #fediverse), which I don't use anymore more, but if I'm pushed to actually do something about it then I'll just shut my accounts down.
Hold on, will I have to upload my ID to close my account? Hmmmm.
