This week's Mindscape podcast is with Petter Törnberg who has been running agent based simulated social networks to try and figure out why they're so divisive and polarizing.
His models do apparently capture these features of the networks which promote the most popular posts to everyone.
Sad to learn that simply using chronological feeds apparently not only doesn't help he reckons it makes things worse!
Maybe his agent's just aren't smart enough to follow the right people, but then probably nor are mere humans.

So I have had a chance to taste some really awesome food. The first time was on Sunday when one of my Home Care workers brought me a bag of homemade baked goods which included cinnamon rolls, blueberry muffins, and some sort of a small chocolate cake or chocolate bread. Not only that, but last night I was pleasantly surprised with dinner from my GF. Southwestern style eggrolls from Chili’s, which I hadn’t had in years. I think the #fediverse should take some steps to be more attractive. Mostly UI/UX stuff. I don't want ads, but there should be, in my opinion, a way for people who work with social media to engage significantly in some way. I don't have a solution for this. I think a step would be for institutions, journalists and so on to start (at least) cross posting here.
