Why are some people so stupid to understand—why is it *so* hard for some people to understand what is so obvious?
If you go to a cow's udder to get some milk from her, and then go through the process of making cheese from that milk … then yes, it will take some time until the cheese has ripened, but at the end you'll have a tasty product that people actually want.
If you go to a cow's anus instead and catch her shit with a bucket, then you'll have something new that you can immediately ship, multiple times a day, without having to wait for that cheese to ripen or those "tight" cheese specialists insisting on their process. Much higher velocity!
But if you add one PR of shit after another PR of shit, you'll get a disgusting, stinking pile of shit that nobody will voluntarily pay for instead of the tasty cheese that people want.
Your pile of shipped shit might perhaps have the same consistency as your cheese (if you always ever just shipped premature half-assed cheese and/or are a bad cheesemaker), but it's really not the same or even just comparable.
I really can't understand why folks whose name isn't Sam Altman, Jensen Huang, or Satya Nadella, don't get this.

Хорошо, что университетов разных много, а не один только Калифорнийский Государственный. И все эти университеты встречают этот дизрапшин по разному. CSU вот решил снюхаться с OpenAI. Но другие пойдут другим путём. Что из всего этого выгорит, покажет время. И деньги. В конце концов, любой университет, это коммерческое предприятие, которое продаёт образование. Если такое образование окажется ценным для экономики, то деньги в такой университет потекут. Если нет, то ну чтож, деньги потекут в другой университет, который сделал ставку на что-то другие.
Мы сейчас, никто из нас, не знаем, какая ставка окажется правильной. Это уже, как карты лягут.
Но да, как действует OpenAI, мне крайне не нравится. OpenAI вовсе не опен, и ChatGPT это всего лишь LLM, который ещё не AI. Но как бы то ни было, Сэм Альтман хочет многа деняк. И он их, сука, получает.

The #AI craze furnishes an appalling example of such erasure of the working class: in order for OpenAI and xAI and Anthropic and all the rest of the #LLM vendors to present the public the illusion of a smoothly operating superintelligent machine, a powerful black box which you can ask to do things via #ChatGPT or whatever, they're actually dumping a great deal of the machinery's workings onto human beings, toiling away in obscurity in Asia and Africa and elsewhere, and getting very little money for their pains (e.g. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ai-work-kenya-exploitation-60-minutes/ ).
The mere existence of these warehouses of people making crucial decisions on behalf of the purportedly superintelligent and all-encompassing AI exposes the falsity of the claims which the #technology barons are making about their machines. They have NOT created a self-contained, autonomous, independently intelligent being. Instead, their "AI" is more like an "egregore" in occult terms, an abstract entity that condenses into one being the thoughts and labors of millions of people.
