I think we should really have a website that serves as an introduction to the Fediverse which has been focus-tested with a group of teenagers. At the very least.
For all its faults, #Bluesky in the early phases understood marketing and outreach. The #Fediverse never really did - the basic attitude is: "If we build it, they will come". And that's why our Monthly Active Users keep hovering beneath a million, instead of growing.

From what I can tell, if you create an account on Blacksky you don't have to answer anything about age requirements and they get you started with follow/moderation packs, but its still part of the Bluesky ecosystem, and there's no "defederating" the way there is on here? Open to correction, im just a Luddite with a dream

People seem to engage with #socialmedia through a lens of voyeurism, animosity, or sadomasochism, rather than through positivity or genuine connection. I enjoy the sexual attention I get, but sex gets boring after a while, and the other thing people are willing to discuss is a very psychotic level of fixation on everything and everyone they hate.

Well, I’m not really looking for engagement here on #Mastodon. I have an account on #Bluesky where I post nudes and interact with adult content.
I just find it slightly disturbing that no one cares to interact with me until they see what I look like naked, lol. If it’s not porn or something that pisses them (or someone else) off, people don’t want it.
Everyone seems fully committed to their existential despair and compulsive, excessive rumination.

I just find it interesting that the ONLY time I get engagement on #socialmedia is when I'm either posting nudes or engaging in #political topics.
Hobby stuff, wholesome content, and chill posts get zero engagement, but when I "dunk" on #Bluesky, I get a ton of boosts.
It's very telling of where online culture is right now. If it's not porn or bullying <insert enemy>, no one cares.
I'm not looking for engagement. It's just disturbing what people choose to engage with.
